[A great movie] is a collaboration, a collaboration between handsome, gifted people and sickly little mole people.

Whatever the future looks like, Alice in Wonderland will still be relevant. Depending on your approach, the story can be silly, scary, ominous or charming. Is it a dark parable of computerized dystopia? Sure. Candy-colored comedy of manners? Perfect.

— John August provides a history of the three times he has not adapted Alice in Wonderland and whether he ever might ever do so in future. johnaugust.com » On Alice in Wonderland

powers of ten :: charles and ray eames on Vimeo (via Jesse Thorn at Maximum Fun)

I haven’t seen this film in decades, but I’ve thought of it from time to time. I am not good at estimating orders of magnitude — I have to focus hard to memorize any large numbers that I want to know, like the population of the US or the US GDP — and even then I often remember incorrectly.

Maybe that’s why this film has stuck with me. After about 30 seconds, I can see clearly that I have no chance of remembering these numeric relationships. Still, it’s fun to watch.
